Myths & Facts

MYTH: Invisalign from
a general dentist is the same as Invisalign from Dr.Kunik
FACT: Dr. Kunik has worked with Invisalign
since 1999. He has been actively involved in Invisalign clinical
trials and studies. Dr. Kunik’s extensive experience
with Invisalign treatment and the clinical check process allow
for predictable treatment planning.
MYTH: Straight teeth stay straight
FACT: Treatment planning and retention are
by far the most crucial steps in achieving the best orthodontic
results. Unfortunately, those with less training than an orthodontist
often overlook these steps. Comprehensive treatment planning
involves a specific plan to maintain straight teeth and a
correct bite.
MYTH: Specialists are more expensive than
general dentists.
FACT: Typically, this is not the case.
Sometimes general dentists charge for each service separately,
which can be misleading. Dr. Kunik gives a total treatment
fee that includes diagnostic records, treatment planning,
braces or Invisalign and retainers. It is also important to
consider the added value of having an orthodontic specialist
evaluate and monitor your treatment every step of the way.
MYTH: Metal braces require shots and drills
FACT: Recent radio advertisements
by ClearChoice Austin implied that metal braces require shots
and drills. In fact, braces do not require shots or drills.
Dr. Kunik has been in practice since 1991 and has never given
a shot. Dr. Kunik and his highly qualified team place braces
using an efficient technique with little discomfort.
